South Africa’s ambassador to the USA, Ebrahim Rasool, has been expelled from the country after he made comments calling Trump and Elon Musk “white supremacists”.
The state department issued a swift statement that declared the career ANC partyman “persona non grata” in the USA, and a “race baiting” politician who hates President Donald Trump.
Well, Mr. Rasool breached diplomatic norms by abusing the leader of his host country. There is no way any ambassador can do what Rasool did, and expect no retaliation.
However, this small diplomatic storm has much larger roots: the Israeli-Palestine conflict. South Africa took Israel to the ICC, accusing the Jewish state of genocide against Palestinians during their 17 month war in Gaza.
Israel lost that case, and cut diplomatic ties with South Africa, which responded in kind too. USA always takes Israeli side no matter what.
The ANC government has never forgotten, nor forgiven Israel for secretly supporting the apartheid era regime at the time when it was sanctioned heavily because of its racist, apartheid policies and the horrific crimes it committed against anti apartheid people.
USA, UK, and Kenya also cooperated with that apartheid regime. USA and UK even violated international sanctions too.
Rasool’s diatribe against Trump is not false, but the truth. It is not the first scuffle he has had with the second Trump Administration.
He stood up to the Trump regime when it made false claims of white genocide going on in South Africa, and continued to support his ANC party line on the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
This expulsion marks the new low in the USA-South Africa relations, weeks after Trump halted all aid to the country after Elon Musk accused the ANC government of genocide against whites.
