Food, Power, and Justice: Why Our Diets Must Be Anti-Racist

Food, Power, and Justice: Why Our Diets Must Be Anti-Racist

The food system is deeply political. From who owns the land to who grows, harvests, and profits from our food;systemic racism has shaped every aspect of what we eat.

Confronting this reality means challenging the structures that exploit marginalized communities while promoting sustainable, just alternatives.

An anti-racist diet is more than just what’s on our plate; it’s about dismantling unjust food policies, recognizing the historical and ongoing exploitation of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in agriculture, and creating food systems that empower rather than oppress.

So, what can we do?
✔ Learn the history of the land and who works it
✔ Educate ourselves on privilege and power in the food system
✔ Support and uplift the voices and businesses of BIPOC food producers

Food sovereignty is a key pillar in the fight against fascism. If we want a future of justice and sustainability, we must start with what’s on our plates and who controls our food.
