The European Gender Equality Week is coming to a close. This week serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing inequalities faced by women and gender minorities. Yet, real change requires more than just gestures—it demands action to dismantle the systems that perpetuate these inequalities. Women continue to earn, on average, 13% less than men, often in precarious and undervalued jobs. Leadership remains overwhelmingly male-dominated, with only 39% of MEPs being women. Austerity and underfunded public services disproportionately affect women, forcing them into unpaid care work and trapping them in economic dependence. These issues can’t be solved with surface-level reforms. Capitalism and patriarchy thrive on these inequalities, exploiting and undervaluing women’s work.
